Recently the world watched in eager expectation as the United States made their choice for President. We were told “the stakes were higher than ever!” and that this was “the most important election of our lives!”

最近，全世界都熱切期待美國選出新一任總統。新聞媒體報導「賭注比以往任何時候都高！」，宣稱這是「我們一生中最重要的選舉！」

It’s not surprising that people in America and around the world were then either very excited or incredibly disappointed by the results – depending on which candidate they had fixed their hopes on.

不意外地，美國和世界各地的人們對選舉結果要麼非常興奮，要麼非常失望——這取決於他們支持於哪位候選人。 

Some people have taken this to extremes. I have seen women shave their heads and other people declare they are cutting off family members because of how they voted.

有些人甚至出現極端的行為，我看過婦女剃光頭，也聽聞其他人宣稱因為投票差異而與家人斷絕關係。

Yet whether one’s hopes were fulfilled or dashed on November 5th, politics becomes a problem when we cease to see these people as public servants and start to see them as saviors.

然而，無論一個人的希望在 11 月 5 日實現還是破滅，如果我們不再將候選人視為國家公僕，而開始將他們視為救世主時，政治就成為一個問題。

No elected official, no prince or king, is perfect. None of them can make good on all their promises. And even the greatest of them can only do so much to advance good and limit evil.

沒有任何民選官員、王子或國王是完美的，他們之中沒有人能夠兌現所有承諾，即使是當中最偉大的人，在提倡善行和制裁邪惡方面也只能做這麼多。

Solving sin, sorrow, and brokenness; granting joy, hope, and love – all of this is beyond the ability of any politician, any person, to bring those things to pass.

解決罪惡、悲傷和破碎；給予歡樂、希望和愛——所有這一切都超出了任何政治家、任何人的能力，無法實現這些事情。

 That is why, when we look to Jesus, we are looking to someone who is human like us, but is also so much more. The son of God and son of man knows our weaknesses but can draw on immeasurable power to heal and save.

這就是為什麼當我們仰望耶穌時，我們仰望的是一個像我們一樣的人，但又遠不止於此。上帝之子和人類之子知道我們的弱點，但可以利用不可估量的力量來治癒和拯救。

So no election should cause too much sorrow or too much joy when the one you follow does not sit at the President’s desk but sits on heaven’s throne.

因此，當你追隨的人不是坐在總統的辦公桌前，而是坐在天國的寶座上時，任何選舉都不應該引起太多的悲傷或歡樂。
